Doppler Scans

Doppler is a special type of ultrasound examination used to assess fetal and placental blood flow. Furthermore, the fetal growth and well-being can be monitored.  Some maternal conditions such as gestational diabetes and hypertension can cause problems in placental function and fetal growth. Doppler scans can help in the assessment of the placental function and help with the determination of the time and type of delivery (normal or caesarean section).

Doppler scans measure blood flow in different parts of the fetus, including:

This allows your physician to get instantaneous feedback of your baby’s overall health. The Doppler studies are performed at the same time as an ultrasound using the same equipment.  We offer Doppler assessment of the placenta as part of the routine 20-22 week scan.
